They are thinly stacked layers of degummed silk worm cocoons that are stretched over a frame and left to dry. Every single 'sheet' of a mawata is so thin you can easily read a newspaper through it. Multiple hankies are stacked and when using these for spinning you can peel of a small sheet 1 at a time to spin them up for silky smooth yarn. Carded on my large drum carder and packed with fibery goodness. This batt consists of 85% hand dyed merino (19microns), 5% tussah silk, 5% viscose and 5% angelina sparkle.
