🧟 ZOMBIE AWARENESS MONTH🧟 - Night of the Living Dead (1968)

A lot of the films that I've been giving shout outs to this month have this (by now over 50 years old!) classic to thank. In '68 George Romero set out to make a zombie movie, which would deal with many themes that are still (unfortunately) relevant today.  Duane Jones plays the main character, Ben. Romero stated that Jones' race did not play a part in him getting the role, but he simple delivered the best audition for the part. Even so, Ben being of a different race than the rest of the cast plays a big role in the movie's...

🧟 ZOMBIE AWARENESS MONTH🧟 - The Battery (2012)

Anyone who knows me, knows that if they ask me 'which movie should I watch' I will, without hesitation, name The Battery first. This micro-budget zombie movie (it was made with around $ 6000,-) is dear to my heart ever since I saw it, and met the makers during Imagine Film Festival in 2012. The story revolves around Ben & Mickey, two former baseball players trying to survive after the zombie apocalypse. In this movie the zombies don't fill the bulk of the movie. The isolation and desperation of both Ben and Mickey does. With few words, beautiful images and...

🧟 ZOMBIE AWARENESS MONTH 🧟 - Black Sheep (2006)

Let's be honest, you knew this one was coming right? ⠀ In a small New Zealand community sheep farmers are shook up by some brutal killings. Turns out someone has been experimenting on the fluffy white friends and the sheep are turning into zombies.⠀ ⠀ This comedic horror movie cracked me up because it's one of those outlandish movies that takes a ridiculous premise and manages to put it to film pretty well. The effects are creepy and well done, the acting is good and the humor is on point. ⠀ ⠀ Zombie Type: Infected (genetically engineered)⠀ Zombie Type: Infected...

🧟 ZOMBIE AWARENESS MONTH 🧟 - Maggie (2015)

This Drama/Horror movie stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Abigail Breslin as a father/daughter combo working through a zombie infection. ⠀ A teenage girl in the Midwest becomes infected by an outbreak of a disease that slowly turns the infected into cannibalistic zombies. During her transformation, her loving father stays by her side.⠀ Having Arnold in there may make you think that this would be a fun light movie, but, it isn't. Schwarzenegger and Breslin are amazing together and this movie really shows that there is more to the Governator than just one liners. I was very impressed with this movie and...

🧟 ZOMBIE AWARENESS MONTH 🧟 - House of the Dead (2003)

This 2003 monstrosity, directed by Uwe Boll, is glorious. The acting has more ham than an Italian deli, the editing makes no sense whatso-fucking-ever, the plot is non existent and this movie is probably one of the many, many reasons Hollywood is hesitant to invest in adaptations of computer games to the big screen. Based (hotdog in a hallway-loosely) on the 1996 arcade lightgun game of the same title, this movie is about a group of people who take a party boat to an island (called Isla del Morte) and get stuck in a zombie uprising. My description right there...
